Castries, St. Lucia. May 21, 2015– The Eastern Caribbean Communications Authority-ECTEL continues to celebrate its fifteenth anniversary with an Open Day, scheduled to take place at its Saint Lucia based headquarters on Wednesday, June 3. That’s when secondary school students from six surrounding schools will be exposed to the operations of ECTEL as well as other issues related to technology.
IT/ICT Students from Sir Ira Simmons Secondary, Castries Comprehensive, Vide Boutielle Secondary, St. Mary’s College, Corinth Secondary and the Seventh Day Adventist Academy have been invited to attend. All of the institutions are located in the immediate environs of the organization.
The students will learn about ECTEL and its operations, careers in ICT, broadband and open access issues such as number portability, cyber security, quality of service standards, net neutrality, responsible Navigating of Social Media, Spectrum Management.
Chairman of ECTEL’s 16th anniversary Committee and Director of Technical Services, Andrew Millet, says the students will get an insight into the operations of the ECTEL, its role and functions and also learn about current issues in technology and how they are likely to be affected by them. Mr. Millet says they will also be introduced to the many career opportunities that are available in the telecommunications sector.
Activities to mark ECTEL’s 15th anniversary celebrations are continuing under the theme: “Committed to Broadband and Open Access in a Digital World.
